Our engagement covered an extensive scope of services, including licensing, integration, synchronization, and a full suite of consulting services. The client chose the on-premise version of our platform, prioritizing their stringent security and control requirements. Our team provided not just technical support but also custom development, testing, and full execution of the migration process, ensuring a tailor-made solution that fit the client's unique operational needs.
The client is a titan in the automotive industry, recognized globally for their high-quality luxury and premium cars, as well as a diverse range of vans. Their operations extend beyond manufacturing to include comprehensive services like financing, leasing, car subscriptions, car rental, fleet management, and innovative digital services related to charging and payment solutions. They also engage in insurance brokerage and offer groundbreaking mobility services that set industry standards for innovation and customer care.
The project’s challenge was to undertake a meticulous migration of various project components such as Risks, Bugs, Work Tasks, Features, User Stories, and Sub-Tasks from Azure DevOps to Jira Data Center. This migration had to handle not only basic data like assignees and statuses but also attachments and comments. It involved migrating specific Azure DevOps fields such as “Area Path” and “Iteration Path” to Jira, some of which required innovative custom scripting solutions to map data directly to Jira’s “Description” field. The focus was also to ensure the migration of all issues tagged with “jira-migration” and those created in the month leading up to the migration.
By acquiring the necessary licenses and services through an Atlassian Partner, the client was able to facilitate a fast-paced and efficient project initiation, bypassing the typical delays associated with adding external contractors. The decision to use an on-premise version of the getint application was driven by the client’s high-security standards. Our team managed to successfully migrate data into nine new Jira projects from eighteen different Azure DevOps Area Paths, beginning with a trial run on a development instance. This approach not only ensured compliance with the client's security policies but also facilitated a collaborative work environment where our team worked closely with the client's, sharing daily updates and adhering to a mutually agreed-upon non-disclosure agreement.
One significant challenge was to migrate data from approximately 30 fields directly into Jira's “Description” field. Our response was to develop an advanced scripting feature that enabled JavaScript execution for data migration directly within Jira. This development was not only a technical achievement but also a strategic enhancement that simplified the client’s workflow by avoiding the creation of numerous temporary fields in Jira. This scripting innovation has since been adopted into our broader product offerings, demonstrating our commitment to flexible and client-focused solution development.
The project culminated in the successful migration of nine projects from Azure DevOps to Jira Data Center, involving thousands of work items. This migration was executed with precision, maintaining all necessary data integrity and relationships between items. The process streamlined the client's project management tools into a more cohesive and efficient platform, significantly enhancing their operational efficiency and project tracking capabilities.
